South African pace bowler Lungi Ngidi has picked up a side strain injury during the recent one-day series against Srilanka. The Team Manager has said that it would take close to 4 weeks of rest time followed by a rehab program for him to recover. Hence he will not be a part of the Chennai Super Kings this IPL.

Lungi Ngidi ruled out of IPL

This really is a huge blow for the Chennai Super Kings considering the impact he had created in the previous edition of the IPL. He took 11 wickets in 7 games that he played, at an economy of 6, and was all set to spearhead the attack this season. His replacement is yet to be announced from the CSK camp.

However, the Chennai Super Kings do have back up options in their squad to manage until a replacement arrives. They could go for the English pace bowler David Willey, who is also a handy batsman. The other option is to play the likes of Shardul Thakur/Mohit Sharma and have Imran Tahir as the overseas option.
