In this year's IPL, the over rate has been an issue as teams have not managed to complete their overs on time.

In the against the Kings XI Punjab, the Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain Virat Kohli was fined Rs 12 Lakh for slow over rate. The IPL statement said "As it was his team's first offense of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh"
Previously, The Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and the Rajasthan Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane were fined for the exact same reason. These fines cause a very small impact on the players and there is a common feeling that these fines will not help to solve the problem.
