After Winning the toss, Ashwin decided to field first.

KKRvsKXIP post match review

KKR got off to a flyer with Narine smashing 24 runs of Varun Chakravarthy in the second over. Both Lynn and Narine fell in quick succession which brought Uthappa and Rana to the crease. Both batsman looked in good form and took a liking to the Punjab bowling attack with Uthappa scoring 67 and Rana scoring 63. KKR had scored 146 in 14.3 overs before Rana got out and Russell came to the crease. After a lucky escape where Russell got bowled of a no-ball ( since there were only 3 fielders inside the 30-yard circle instead of 4), he didn't look back and smashed a 17 ball 48, taking KKR to a massive total of 218 in the 20 overs.

In return, the Kings XI Punjab lost KL Rahul and Chris Gayle within the first 5 overs, which was a major set back, since they heavily depend on the two to chase down big scores. There were notable contributions from Mayank Agarwal who scored 58 from 34 balls and Miller who scored 59 from 40, but they were always behind the game chasing a massive total and were not able to get close to the target.

The Russell let-off will be the turning point of the match, and had they got him out at that stage, Punjab would have been in the game.
