CSK CEO MAKES 'BIG DECLARATION' ON IPL 2021; CONFIRMS WHO WILL LEAD THE NEXT SEASON!
Home > News Shots > SportsDespite MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could not make it to the playoffs this IPL season, fans and the franchise board members still hope that the team will be back next year with better performers and scores.
CSK has so far won three titles in the IPL that they have been part of. This is the first time ever in IPL’s history that CSK has failed to enter the playoffs stage.
Despite their worst ever performance, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirms that Dhoni will still continue to lead the team in IPL 2021.
“Yes, definitely. I am very confident that Dhoni will lead CSK in 2021. He has won three titles for us in the IPL. This is the first year we have not qualified for the playoffs. No other team has done that. One bad year does not mean we will have to change everything,” Viswanathan told TOI in a recent interview.
This year at IPL 2020, it was not just CSK but Dhoni himself who has been below-par on the field. In 12 matches this season, he has scored 199 runs at a strike rate of just 118.45.
“We didn’t play to our potential this season. We lost games that we should have won. That pushed us back. The withdrawals of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh coupled with Covid cases in the camp meant that the balance of the side was upset,” he further added.
Though the CEO is still showing faith in Dhoni, coach Stephen Fleming had earlier admitted that CSK is an ‘ageing team’ and ‘has run out of juice’.
Meanwhile as per reports, source close to the team management says that some tough calls will be taken for the next edition. “See as Fleming has said, lot of chinks in the armor has been exposed this time. Some tough calls surely will be taken. The only issue is there is little time between now and the next edition”, said the source to InsideSport last week.
On Sunday (October 25), the victory of Rajasthan Royals (RR) over Mumbai Indians (MI) ended all their hopes despite Chennai beating the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) the same day.
