AS INDIA UNDER LOCKDOWN, IPL 2020 POSTPONED INDEFINITELY: BCCI OFFICIAL

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 has been postponed indefinitely. The much awaited IPL was earlier scheduled to begin from March 29, but later it got postponed until April 15.

As per news agency ANI, "IPL 2020 season has been postponed indefinitely," sources within BCCI said. Currently, the Central government has also suspended all visas to India till April 15 as a measures to contain the spread of the virus.   

BCCI's confirmation on IPL, comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will remain under lockdown till May 3 due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and death. 

"Till 20th April, all districts, localities, states will be closely monitored, as to how strictly they are implementing norms. States which will not let hotspots increase, they could be allowed to let some important activities resume, but with certain conditions," PM Modi said during his address to the nation.

As per data provided by the Ministry of Health, the total number of COVID-19 cases across the country is 11,439, including 9,756 active cases while 377 deaths have been recorded.
