After winning the first 2 T20Is, India was looking to seal the 5-match series with the win in the 3rd T20I. The toss favoured New Zeland like the 2nd T20I match and Kane opted to bowl first against India . India finished the innings with 179 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of 20 overs.
Virat Kohli remained the second top run-scorer for India with 38 runs in 27 balls followed by Rohit Sharma who scored 65 runs out of 40 balls.
Martin Guptill and Colin Munro gave a decent start for New Zealand. However both of them were dismissed within 7 overs by the Indian bowlers. Shradul Thakur picked Guptill's wicket while Jadeja dismissed Colin Munro. Mitchell Santner and Colin de Grandhomme went for 9 runs and 5 runs respectively. At the end of 18 overs New Zeland lost 4 wickets while registering 160 runs on the board.
The 'KANE' Storm
NZ Skipper Kane Williamson stood firm and smashed the deliveries of Indian bowlers, thus scoring his highest T20 score. The 19th over bowled by Jasprit Buumrah was butchered by Kane Williamson in which he crossed 90+ runs. The final over was bowled by Mohammed Shami who dimissed Kane at 95 runs.
At the end NZ needed 2 runs in 3 balls. Tim Sefert was on strike while Ross Taylor stood at the non-striker end. Shami contained 1 ball but the next ball went for a single. Ross Taylor was on strike to face the final ball and Shami took the stumps off with a fine delivery- BOWLED. The match tied.
Super Over
NZ batted first in the Super over while Bumrah bowled. Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill scored 18 in one over.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul batted for India while Tim Southee bowled. Though the batsmen struggled in the first half of the over, Rohit Sharma hit two sixes in the over and finished the game. India won the 5-match T20 series by 3-0.
