People from various states, especially West Bengal, Assam, Delhi and Tamil Nadu have been staging protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which was recently brought into effect by the Central Government.

How CAA protests in West Bengal affect IPL2020 auction

Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for 2020 is scheduled on December 19 (Thursday) at Kolkata, West Bengal. Of late there has been a widespread dilemma over hosting the auction amidst the heated protests by students, politicians and other civilians.

Though there have been reports of strong violence in West Bengal, it is said that Kolkata has not been affected.

Therefore, the IPL 2020 auction will be held without any change in the schedule on December 19.

"As of Monday evening, IPL auctions are on. Franchises will start arriving by tomorrow evening and Wednesday morning," a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI.

There will be a total of 332 cricketers rolled out in the auction including Australia's Glen Maxwell and South Africa's Dale Steyn with the highest base price of 2 Crores among overseas players.
