In the 34th match of ICC World Cup 2019, India faced West Indies at Old Trafford on Thursday. India is the only unbeaten team after New Zealand was beaten by Pakistan on Wednesday.

Controversial call shocks Rohit Sharma\'s wife and fans

India won the toss and elected to bat. Indian opener, Rohit Sharma was visibly unhappy and was seen saying something to himself as he walked back to the pavillion.

He had earlier smashed a sixer and a boundary in the earlier 6 overs. However, he was in trouble when Kemar Roach got one to swing into the right-handed batsman. West Indies went up in appeal for caught behind as it seemed Rohit had got an inside-edge onto the wicketkeeper.

On-field umpire Richard Illingworth ruled it not out but WIndies captain Jason Holder called for DRS. Though they were confident, Rohit wasn't.

Replays, it is safe to say, were inconclusive. The Snicko had spikes on it as the ball crossed the bat but it wasn't providing conclusive evidence as to whether the ball brushed the bat or Rohit's pad. Nonetheless, after only a couple of replays, third umpire Michael Gough ruled it out, reports India Today.

In case of tight calls, the third umpires generally take a long look at the visuals but Gough's decision to rule it out helped raise quite a few eyebrows, including that of Rohit's wife Ritika Sajdeh who was watching the match.

Rohit who was trying to stand and blast boundaries would have been an asset; however, his early dismissal could result in a lower total like it had happened with Afghanistan given WIndies have solid bowlers to trouble the batting order.
