An Islamic State militant, Ali Saqr al-Qasem, shot his mother Lena in the head in public with an automatic weapon after accusing her of abandoning her religion. According to a Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, Lena was killed for “inciting her son to leave the Islamic State and escaping together to the outside of Raqqa”.
