In a shocking case from Telangana, Deputy Speaker Padma Rao Goud was caught on camera stuffing a bundle of note into a young boy’s mouth, where the boy was performing.

This act of as Deputy Speaker was “a gesture of appreciation” that has drawn flak from children’s rights activists. This shocking incident took place last week during Bonalu celebrations in Secunderabad.

In the video a young boy is seen playing an instrument among a large crowd that is cheering for him as Goud watches. In minutes, Goud then walks forward and stuffs a bundle of notes into the boy’s mouth. While the boy continues to play the instrument.

The boy can be seen playing with the cash stuffed in his mouth.

After the video went viral, children’s rights activists have strongly condemned Goud’s actions stating that the speaker should have waited for the child to finish or either given it to him in his hand or kept it in his pocket but the way in which it was shown was not right.

Further clarifying over the incident, Goud who defended himself and told The News Minute that, "It is a common practice in Telangana, during functions and events they take a bundle of notes and put it in the mouth of a performing artist. I was impressed with the boy’s performance and so I did that. It is not such a big thing.”

“I have not committed a crime or indulged in a scam," he further added.
