Around, 700 passengers of the Mahalaxmi Express were successfully rescued, hours after they were left stranded on a train in Badlapur region. This train had been stuck in floodwaters at Vangani for around 18 hours.

Further assuring safety to all passengers, the Central Railway said that, the Kolhapur-bound commuters will be taken to their destination in a special train. 

Meanwhile among all the chaos, a nine-month pregnant woman went into labour in the stranded Mahalaxmi Express train. The woman, identified as Reshma Kamble, was heading from Mumbai to Kolhapur for the delivery of her child when she got stranded in Thane flood waters since Friday evening.

According to India TV reports, her worried relatives sent out urgent appeals and help from the D1 coach seeking help to rush her to a hospital.

Guardian Minister of Thane Eknath Gaikwad rushed to Badlapur to take keen attention on the rescue operations.

The Indian Army, Indian Air Forces, Indian Navy and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had come to rescue all passengers stranded on the train with around 3-5 feet water on all sides.
