NIRBHAYA CONVICT SHIFTED TO TIHAR JAIL; BUXAR ORDERED TO MAKE EXECUTION ROPES; TO BE HANGED?

In the latest development in the Nirbhaya Case which shook the entire nation when a 23-year-old girl was gang-raped and brutalised by 6 men in December 16, 2016, in Delhi, who later died, a convict, Pawan Kumar was shifted to Tihar Jail due to security reasons, reports Times Now.

Authorities has said that it is a common practice to shift convicts when they are infamous. One of the convicts was juvinile and was tried as such and released when his sentence was over.

Another accused Ram Singh committed suicide in 2013. The three other convicts, Vinay Kumar, Akshay and Mukesh are already in Tihar Jail. All the convicts have been given capital punishment.

In another rape and murder case in Hyderabad where a 26-year-old veterinary doctor was raped and killed, the accused were shot dead in an encounter by the police in the same place.

The incident evoked a fresh clamour, including appeals by the Delhi victim's family for the execution of the convicts. Their death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court a year ago.

In such a situation, Buxar Jail in Bihar, known for its expertise in manufacturing execution ropes, has been directed to keep 10 pieces ready by December 14.

"We received instructions from the prison directorate to keep 10 ropes ready by December 14. We do not know where these will be used. But the Buxar jail has a long tradition of manufacturing execution ropes," said Buxar jail superintendent Vijay Kumar Arora to PTI, reports India Today.

"One thing about these ropes is that if stored for long after manufacture, these become unfit for use," he said. So whoever these ropes are made for, the execution is likely to happen soon.

Usually execution happens before the dawn breaks between 4 am and 6 am according to the Model Prison Manual. The jail currently doesn't have a hangman. Many people have applied for the post. They may choose from one or may outsource the job.
