GOVT EXTENDS DEADLINE TO BUY MANDATORY FASTAGS FOR ALL VEHICLES!

The Transport ministry has extended the deadline to buy mandatory FASTags for all vehicles, private and commercial, from December 1 to December 15.

What are FASTags?

FASTags are prepaid rechargeable tags, supposedly affixed on the windscreen of a vehicle, that will enable automatic payment deduction when the vehicle crosses toll plazas. FASTags work on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and they do not have an expiry date.

450 toll plazas across national and state highways have been currently enabled with FASTag payment. The complete list of FASTag-enabled toll plazas is available on the National Payments Corporation of India website - npci.org.in/netc.

How to buy and activate your FASTag?

FASTags are issued by 22 certified banks through various channels such as Point-of-Sale (POS) at National Highway toll plazas and select bank branches. They are also available on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.

To activate your FASTag, you will have download the 'My FASTag' mobile application. Android users can download the app from 'Google Play Store' while iPhone users can get it from 'Apple Store'.

Thereafter, you have to link any of your existing bank accounts with the FASTag. The NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) prepaid wallet facility is also available in My FASTag mobile app, where you can load money and get your money deducted from the wallet instead of getting it deducted from a bank account.
