There have been a total of 72,843 fires in Brazil this year, with more than half in the Amazon region, said the National Institute for Space Research.

It is vital for fighting against climate change and it is home for uncountable plants and animals. It is the largest rainforest on Earth.

Fires often occur in the dry season in Brazil but they are also deliberately started in efforts to illegally deforest land for cattle ranching.

Yellow alert is issued in Brazil and the state has declared emergency, reports Express. NASA has released footage that the smoke can be seen from space, reports USA Today.

Brazil's São Paulo city has turned dark during daytime as it is covered in smoke. The city is 1700 miles away from the forest. #PrayForAmazonia has started trending on Twitter after people started posting pictures and videos of the scary visuals.

While Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro is accused of not controlling wildfires and deforestation as timber is ceased in large number, he has accused NGOs of setting fire, reports The Hindu.

Countries like Norway and Germany spend millions to fund the rainforest.  Due to the number of fires in the Amazon rainforest it’s hard to predict exactly when it started. However, the fires have increased recently, with more than 9,500 fires since Thursday. Reportedly, the fire is high since the past 3 weeks. There is also lost Indian tribes living in the Amazon.
