Almost 15 migrant workers returning to Madhya Pradesh amid a nationwide lockdown, died on Friday after being run over by a goods train in Maharashta’s Aurangabad district. Officials added that one of the individuals has sustained injuries.

Reportedly, the incident occurred around 06:30 am on the Aurangabad- Jalna Railway line. 

According to PTI’s report, an official stated that labourers who had been walking along the tracks fell asleep due to exhaustion. They were mowed down the train. 

The Ministry of Railways told in its tweet that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

The Ministry of Railways has now put out a tweet and said that an inquiry has been ordered into the tragic incident. As per the Ministry’s tweet the train driver tried to stop the train but eventually hit the migrants. 

"During early hours today after seeing some labourers on track, loco pilot of goods train tried to stop the train but eventually hit them between Badnapur and Karmad stations in Parbhani-Manmad section. Injured have been taken to Aurangabad Civil Hospital. An inquiry has been ordered," the tweet read

As per media reports, the labourers are natives of Umarya and Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh and were workers in SRG Company in Jalna. 

This is happening at a time when migrant workers across the country have decided to walk back to their homes from different states. Some of them were forced into it as there is no transportation facilities available at this point. 

While different states have allowed for special trains to run, many of them are finding difficulties in registering online or it has been cancelled.
