About you/ your family

My family is small. My dad Mohan, mom Devika and younger sister Sukanya. My mom is a trained dancer and is running a dance school at Alleppey. I have also learnt Bharathnatyam, and have even completed arangetram. I am also a trained Carnatic music singer.

How did you enter films?

Fazil sir visited our dance school at Alleppey and saw me dancing and approached my mom to permit me to act in films. As I was very young mom heisted initially but due to the reputation that Fazil sir has in Tamil and Malayalam film industry, my mom agreed and that’s how I was cast as Shalini’s niece in Kaadalukku Mariyaadai which was a great hit.

What about your subsequent films in Tamil?

My next film in Tamil was again under Fazil sir’s direction Oru Naal Oru Kanavu with Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal. I was one of the three sisters of Srikanth. I feel very fortunate to be featuring in ‘Katril Varum geetham’ number scored by Ilayaraja sir. Following this, a solo number ‘Paalakkattu Pakkathile’ with Dhanush in Yaaradi Nee Mohini catapulted me to the zones of visibility. Nayanthara appreciated my performance in this number. After this, I had a serious dilemma whether to join the industry or not but have decided to be in the industry for quite some time.

What are your current projects?

There is a big list. Under A V M banner, I am doing Aa aaa yi yee, Mahesh Saranya matrum palar with Vasu sir’s son Shakthi, Abirami Ramanadan’s Panjamirtham, Shankar productions Eerum, Arumugam directed by Suresh Krishna and Vennila kabadi kuzhu. I am donning varied characters in these films. No two films are alike. In addition to these I am getting offers from Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam. But I want to be careful in choosing my scripts and like to concentrate in Tamil right now.

Are you continuing your education? Don’t you think films may affect your studies?

I am doing my B.A. in English literature at Alleppey. I try to balance both education and my career. My college is very cooperative and my classmates help with lessons when I am not attending college. I just want to clear my papers without arrears. I hope I am able to achieve that. I do not have bigger dreams than that.

What are the characters that you would like to essay?

I want to take on roles that would best suit me. Primarily I need to earn a good name in the industry for my professionalism. I will not do any glamorous roles.

What about love and gossip?

Oh no, I am a young girl and I don’t want to be involved in anything that would hamper my career. I love and respect my parents a lot and will never go against their wishes. I like to read ‘kisu kisu’ but please do not write anything about me and I am also sure that I will not give room for that.
