KATTRADHU KALAVU MUSIC REVIEW
Review by : Malathy Sundaram

Produced by Pattiyal Sekar and directed by Balaji Deviprasad, this film stars Krishna (Sekar’s son who did ‘Alibaba’) and Vijayalakshmi (of Chennai-28 fame) along with V.M.C. Haneefa, Santhana Barathi, Kumaravel and others. It is the story of a daredevil conman and the film has been extensively shot in Kashmir. Paul. J, who composed some good music for ‘Kadhai’, is the composer for this too. The album lists five songs.

Kattradhu Kalavu
...
Vocals: Blaaze, Dinesh.K.

Lyrics: Blaaze, Dinesh.K, Paul.J

A robust hip-hop number presented surprisingly on the Vakulabaranam raga scale! Expressive use of guitars and percussion instruments. The words get drowned out sometimes. A song that proclaims nothing is impossible.

Indha Vaanam Indha Boomi...
Vocals:
Hariharan, Anuradha Sriram
Lyrics: Yugabarathi

  Kattradhu Kalavu

This song swings seamlessly between the Ganta (5 beat) and chatusra (4 beat) rhythms. Built on a rather folksy interpretation of Sankarabaranam raga, it celebrates the variety show that life itself is. A rather high-pitched rendering, with good use of drums.

Suthantiram...
Vocals:
Paul.J, Shakti Shree
Lyrics: Yugabarathi

This energetic number borders on fantasy, but packs some sensible lyrics. The flute-like bits are so airy and neat to listen to. Will be fun to see how it is going to be filmed, as it begins with sounds of a flight taking off and ends with landing sounds.

Thevaram...
Vocals:
Yogeshwaran Maanickam, Puniyavathi Elangovan

Traditional lyrics, we have some layered music here, with the lady singer’s voice merging into native drum sounds and the male singer joining in singing the same Thevaram later. Is it filmed inside a temple? A mild tension is felt right through the song. Do savor the play of meanings on the single word ‘venda’.

Azhagaana Ponnu Dhaan. Remix...
Vocals:
Paul.J, Sunandita

Well, this number could send shivers down the spines of actress Bhanumathi’s fans. Her well-loved Vakulabarana raga piece has been transformed into a hip dance item. Could find itself briefly on the charts for its novelty alone, nothing else.

Verdict:

A rather taut album with rather stiff music because of the strong keyboard notes and drums. After’ Kadhai’, one wonders how this album of Paul.J is going to be received.
