In 2010, a small film went on to become the sleeper hit of the year. The film was Kalavani and the director was Sarkunam. Kalavani proved that if the story was packaged and presented in a sincere and neat manner, it is bound to be a success regardless of star power. Sarkunam repeated his success streak in Vaagai Sooda Vaa  in 2011 which was a tribute to the teaching community. This film won many awards and acclaim in film festivals all over and the contented director is working in Sotta Vazha Kutty and Kovathai Alli Konjugiren now.
