Auction satellite rights of films: Udhayakumar
The audio launch of the film Kadhal Pisase was held recently at the Four Frames Theatre. The audio CD was officially released by director R.V.Udhayakumar.
The movie stars newcomer Aravind who is also directing the movie. Mithuna debuts as heroine alongside Aravind. The movie consists mostly of fresh faces. The music has also been composed by debutante Brindhan. The background score has been done by Sabesh Murali. Santhanam plays an important character in the film.
Udhayakumar said that the producers of films should demand royalty for clipping or song of the movie that was shown on television. He added that the issue has been pending for quite a while and producers need to be proactive to make it effective. He asked the producers to become members of the Indian Performance Association. He said that the promised tax exemption for films named in Tamil announced by the former government was not properly executed. He informed that he along with a few others are trying to get belated justice for all the films that missed out the opportunity, following orders by the current government to give tax exemptions in retrospect.
He said that the satellite and audio rights of films must be sold off in auctions, officiated by the Film Chamber, to help producers get a fair price. “The base price for this auction would be fixed according to the star, director value and budget of the film,” he said.
Director Perarasu thanked actor Santhanam for finding time for acting in Kadhal Pisase even when he was busy acting alongside big stars. Director Kannan said that the movie did not look like a small budget venture by newcomers, it looked very much like a mainstream production.
Thiraviyapandian, producer of the film Ochayee explained the problems faced by small time producers and narrated the struggles he went through to prove that the word ‘Ochayee’ was indeed a Tamil word.
