''PEOPLE HAVE STARTED BELIEVING IN WOMEN NOW''

“There can’t be any other better time than now to make a sports based film and that too about a woman’s triumph”, starts director Sudha Kongara with a lot of positivity. The director who had made an emphatic Irudhi Suttru is all set to remake it in Telugu. She  updates:

The euphoria and the right ambience
We are beginning in September and are all set. It’s been a high now with Sindhu and Sakshi winning. These girls are doing great and it feels sooo cool right now to be making this film. Not a single man has won a medal! 

It is the apt time to make an underdog story, a story about women achievers and coach in this country and more so in Telugu. At the end of the day we can never take away Gopichand from Sindhu or Saina’s name. Tyson always said which is the base of my film- The day I listen to my coach, I won; the day I didn’t,  I lost terribly. That’s exactly the film is about.

Pre Irudhi Suttru, I don’t think there was this kind of euphoria about sports. Now people are beginning to wake up to the fact that we have great talents here and have started believing in women.

Not a copy
It is not like a copy. We are exploring a different culture and working with different actors. Direction becomes exciting when you are working with different performers. It is like a new film for me. I am crazy about sports films and even if I had to make 100 such films, I will be the happiest doing sports cinema.

Venkatesh and Ritika
Venkatesh has been training since April. He has built up real well. We are slowly working on his looks like his beard etc. For Ritika Singh, the language is new. She has also started learning already and is working hard. Gymming is going on as usual.

Supporting cast
Nassar sir alone is playing the same role. He is very popular in Telugu too. The rest of the cast we will be choosing from Andhra.

Fishing community
For the fishing community, it will be based in Jalarpet in Vizag. They are called Jalarallu. The community is just like our fishing community in Tamil Nadu. I studied their life, went to their house and did a lot of research. They dress a little differently and speak a little differently. Again, they are the feistiest kind of women over there. They are very brave  and you can’t take these women lightly. It fits my story perfectly.

Santhosh Narayanan is the music director, Shakthi is the cinematographer and Satish Surya is the editor.

Release
We are targeting a December release or early next year.
