RIP: WHO WAS 'NALLENNAI' CHITHRA? HERE'S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HER LIFE AND FILM CAREER!

Although she was known as Chithra throughout the South Indian film industry, she got the title of 'Nallennai Chithra' after she did an oil brand commercial that got popular among the masses. She first appeared in Malayalam movies as child actress and received her first hit in 1983-movie 'Attakalasham' along with Prem Nazir and Mohanlal. However, her first movie was 1975-Tamil movie 'Apoorva Raagangal' along with Kamal Haasan.

The ace-actress went on to don various roles in more than a hundred films across the major south Indian languages and had acted along with two of the Big 'M's' in Mollywood - Mammootty and Mohanlal. She had also shared the screen space with superstar Rajinikanth in 'Aval Appadithan' and 'Oorkavalan'.

Some of her notable films in Malayalam included 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha', 'Adavitam', 'Nadodi', 'Ekalavyan', 'Devasuram', 'Commissioner', 'Aaram Thampuran' and Ustad. In Tamil, she wowed the audience with films like 'Cheran Pandiyan', 'Raja Paarvai', 'En Thangachi Padichava' and 'Gopala Gopala'.

Several filmmakers, actors and other celebrities mourned the death of Chithra. In the Tamil industry, Actor Ponvannan, Rekha, Anuradha, Bigg Boss fame Suresh Chakravarthi and many others visited her residence and paid their last respects.

She was married to Vijayaraghavan in the year 1990. She later quit the film industry to concentrate on her personal life. The couple also has a daughter named Mahalakshmi born in 1992.
