All decks cleared for Kamal's Papanasam

Great news for Ulaganayagan Kamal fans

Mar 17, 2015
The Malayalam blockbuster Drishyam drew the attention of one and all when ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan chose to do the Tamil remake. The Tamil version titled Papanasam starring Kamal and Gauthami has been the talk of the town, since the day the shoot began. Expectations among movie-lovers are on a high. Interestingly Jeethu Joseph, who helmed the original, is directing Papanasam too.

Now a great news awaits movie-lovers and fans of Ulaganayagan. The Second Additional District Court, Ernakulam has dismissed a suit filed by Satheesh Paul against the producers and Jeethu Joseph, claiming that the story of Drishyam was a copyright violation of his novel Oru Mazhakalathu.

The shooting of Papanasam was initially stalled by Satheesh Paul, who had obtained an interim injunction but the producers managed to vacate the injunction and contested the case. After hearing both sides the District Court has finally dismissed the claims of Satheesh Paul and on merit has passed an order in favour of the producers and Jeethu Joseph.

The good news is that the verdict clearly puts to rest the entire controversy. Papanasam is completed and is expected to hit the theatres this summer. The film also stars Asha Sarath, Ananth Mahadevan, Kalabhavan Mani and Nivedha Thomas. Produced by Suresh Balajie, George Pius of Wide Angle Creations and Rajkumar Sethupathi of Raj Kumar Theatres Pvt Ltd. Papanasam has music by Ghibran.
