What connects Alam Ara and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum?
Mar 14, 2014Although Raja Harishchandra, a silent film, was the first Indian film to be released in 1913, it was Alam Ara that is credited as the first Indian sound film which was released in 1931. Interestingly Alam Ara celebrates its anniversary today having released on 14th of March, 83 years back.
It is of course a coincidence of sorts that the audio of Balaji Mohan’s Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (VMP) has found its music released today on the anniversary day of the first sound film of the nation. The teaser of the film that was released some time ago had all its artists in various actions of shutting their mouth. It even had the hero Dulquar Salman in shock on seeing his reflection in the mirror where there was nothing in place of the mouth.
What is more interesting is that a film that appears to propagate silence has its music launched on the anniversary of India’s first talkie film. Quite a happenstance one should say!
