“I was afraid of taking up direction” – K Balachander

Aug 28, 2014

The one and only Iyakkunar Sigaram, director K. Balachander, being part of Tamil cinema industry for the past 50 years, churning out over a hundred movies, is one of the most prominent filmmakers in the country.

At the Behindwoods Gold Summit he was presented with the ‘Golden Legacy’ medal. Here’s the excerpt of his acceptance speech-

“I’m happy that you’re felicitating all the award winners, currently in the industry. There are a lot of new entrants, with so many new people coming into the industry”

“The award given to me is in respect to my 50 years in the industry. I would first like to thank the Tamil people all over the world, and let me congratulate Behindwoods for conducting this event.”

“Among stalwart directors and actors, I don’t know how I had the courage to do a film like Neerkumizhi. But the movie stood its time. I was afraid of taking up direction, but thanks to my background in theatre it stood me in good stead”

“I’m not tired. I want to work. I should at least take one more movie again”
