In what way is Kaththi, Vijay's first genuine success?

Today marks Kaththi's 50th day in theaters and its success story has been pretty well documented from Day 1. It is widely accepted that the film has grossed more than 100 crores worldwide to emerge as the biggest grosser this year among all Tamil films. For the other current generation stars, Kaththi's business would be a benchmark to chase.

As we all know, Kaththi had Vijay in dual roles (as Kathiresan and Jeevanantham), for the 3rd time in his career, after Azhagiya Tamil Magan and Villu. While the latter two didn't make it count at the box-office and were marred by negative reviews, Kaththi has opened Vijay's account as his first genuine dual role success in his illustrious two decade long career.

With 'Vijay 58' also reportedly featuring the mass hero in dual roles, he would be looking to extend his 'double role success story'.
