A write-up on heroes who had releases in quick succession

Ajith, Arya and Vijay Sethupathi are among a select few

Feb 06, 2014
A few decades back, most of our prominent actors were working round the clock on multiple projects at the same time. As a result, at any point of time, there used to be more than one film of the same actor running in theaters simultaneously. Stars such as Rajini, Kamal, Mohan, Vijayakanth used to be so prolific in the 80s that theaters and fans used to welcome their new films even as their previous films were ruling the roost at the box-office.

Nowadays, actors have become more selective and mostly work only in one film at a time. The big stars and leading actors only have one release every year and sometimes just a release in two or three years. Films also don't enjoy a long shelf life like before and a successful film nowadays generally has a solid run of just about 3 to 4 weeks.

But over the past few weeks and months, some of our leading stars have had new releases which arrived at a time when their earlier releases were still hanging on in some theaters. We take a look at such rare instances.

Jiiva - Ko and Rowthiram - Ko was a big blockbuster for this young star in 2011 and his next release Rowthiram released at a time when Ko was still in a few theaters.

Vemal - Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga and Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal - Last year, Vemal had two multistarrers which were released in quick succession. While KBKR released first and earned the 'Hit' tag, MPMK released just a month later when KBKR was still very much in the running.

Siva Karthikeyan Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga and Ethir Neechal - Similarily, Siva Karthikeyan also joined this little club with KBKR (where he shared the screenspace with Vemal) and Ethir Neechal last year. Ethir Neechal and MPMK released on the same day and resulted in a nice coincidence between Siva Karthikeyan and Vemal.

Arya - Raja Rani, Arrambam and Irandam Ulagam - While Arrambam released at a time when Raja Rani was still attracting audiences to theaters, Irandam Ulagam similarly released at a time when Arrambam was running very well across the state.

Ajith - Arrambam and Veeram - Arrambam released on October 31 and just as it was crossing the 70 day mark, Veeram released on January 10th. Arrambam continued in a few centers across the state even after Veeram's release.

Vijay Sethupathi - Rummy and Pannaiyarum Padminiyum - Vijay Sethupathi had a release last week in Rummy, though he was just a second lead in the movie. Just a week later, his Pannaiyarum Padminiyum releases tomorrow across the state in large number of screens even as Rummy continues to hold on to a small chunk of screens.
