The latest film to cross the 100 crores mark

Aug 05, 2013

The 100 crore net collection mark is a much revered figure nowadays, not just in Bollywood but also in the South. While, it is quite normal for big Hindi films to breach this mark in just domestic collections, in the South it is still a tough ask for a film to reach 100 crores even if we include overseas collections. The size of the market for Hindi films is a main reason why it is pretty easy for a well-received film to reach the century mark in the country, as almost 80% of the country's population is into Hindi films.

The most recent Hindi film to reach the 100C mark in domestic collections is the Farhan Akhtar starrer, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (BMB), which is a biopic and a glowing tribute to India's foremost athlete, 'Flying Sikh' Milkha Singh. Directed, by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, BMB has been allotted the tax-free status in many states and there hasn't been any worthy competition too, over the past few weeks. The collections at the end of yesterday-4th August 2013 (the 24th day of its run), stand at 100.3 crores and the run is expected to continue till Aug 8th, as the big Shahrukh Khan starrer, Chennai Express, releases on the 9th as an Eid special.
The main facet of BMB has been its really steady run even after the first couple of weeks. It is the third Hindi film in 2013 to breach the 100 crore net mark in the country, after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (190.03 crores net) and Race 2 (102 crores net).
