And India's entry to the Oscars in 2014 is ...

Sep 22, 2013
A Gujarati language film by the name 'The Good Road' has been chosen as India's entry to the 2014 edition of the Oscars in the Foreign Language Films category, according to an announcement from the Film Federation of India. This film directed by debutante Gyan Correa, stars the likes of Sonali Kulkarni and Ajay Gehi and it was also awarded with a National Award for the Best Gujarati Feature film.

A total of 22 Indian films were in the running in this Oscar entry race. 'The Lunchbox', directed by Ritesh Batra was heavily favored to be India's representative at the Oscars but 'The Good Road' has stolen the thunder and edged ahead. Many popular filmmakers such as Anurag Kashyap expressed their disappointment at 'The Lunchbox' being overlooked in the Oscar race.

A 16 member jury, appointed by the Film Federation of India, was responsible for this selection. Some of the other Indian films which have earlier made it to the final shortlist for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar were Lagaan, Salaam Bombay and Mother India. Will 'The Good Road' manage to join these illustrious films and go one better than them and nail the all-elusive Oscar?
