Legendary musician passes away

Legendary carnatic violinist, Lalgudi Jayaraman passed away last evening in Chennai due to cardiac arrest, following a period of illness. He was 82 and is survived by his wife and his son and daughter, who are both acclaimed violinists in their own right.  


He began his career at the age of 12 and made his name first as an accompanying artist and later as a classy solo violinist. He has been conferred with titles such as the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan and several other awards as well. He has even composed for films and his work for the film Sringaram won him the National Award.
