After All in all Azhagu Raja (to be released Diwali) and Biriyani (released for Pongal), Karthi is moving on to Kaali, produced by Studio Green and directed by Attakathi director Pa. Ranjith. Karthi will play the role of a guy based in North Chennai. Cathrine Teresa is the film’s heroine. The movie also has Nasser, Balasingh and Rama. Other debut actors, who are part of the movie, are undergoing acting workshops for the movie.

“North Chennai has the reputation of being a rustic neighborhood with dilapidated buildings, grubby populace and their violent lives. I think it is an exaggerated version stereotyped by films. No Tamil movie has portrayed the love, warmth and bravery of people in North Chennai,” laments Ranjith in a press release of the movie.

“I am planning to show the unexplored areas of the lives of people in North Chennai – their hard work, their lightheartedness, their interests in arts and their love. These are things I saw in them and enjoyed,” Rajnith adds. “North Chennai folks are involved in arts and sports with music troupes, dance troupes and sports that is evident from the associations in every street. Mostly, they are self-taught and do not have any teachers. Kaali will be one such person. Well read, educated and lover of arts, he loves his people and celebrates his family. This is the story of him,” Ranjith asserts.

The movie’s shoot schedules will start in Perambur. Story, screenplay and direction is taken care by Ranjith. Cinematography is done by Murali G, who is an alumnus of the Pune Film Institute. Santhosh Narayanan scores for the movie, editing is by Praveen-Srikanth, art by Ramalingam, Stunt by Anbarivu, choreography by Sheriff and lyrics by Kabilan. Veera Shankar takes care of the production management; SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu are responsible for co-production. Gnanavelraja produces the movie for studio green banner. Kaali will go on floor starting October 4.
