Komban fame Lakshmi Menon in conversation with Anita Raghuraman, about her film career and mindset

"I AM BORED OF WEARING THE SAME COSTUMES"

Amidst the glitzy, glossy and glamorous cinema world, we have a simple dusky beauty who has a unique fan following. Lakshmi Menon is the one to stand out in a crowd.

She started her career at the age of 16 with a Malayalam film titled Raghuvinte Swantham Raziya and then went on to act in many Tamil films. Her journey till her upcoming film Komban has been remarkable and mindful. Komban marks her 10th film in her career. About how she chooses her scripts, she says, "I don’t actually like listening to scripts at all. My manager does the work for me. So all the credits go to him (smiles). But yes, there are days when I sit and listen to the one liner of the story. If I am in a good mood then there will be a straight nod on my face, but if my mood is bad then, there are times I have actually missed good scripts. Nevertheless I am lucky to have acted in films that are strong in its story.”

The very charming beauty makes her presence felt irrespective of the time she spends on screen in a film. Be it Sundarapandian, Kumki or Manjapai she has delivered nothing but the best. How can an actress give successful films continuously? She says, "Well, I have also heard people call me ‘Lucky Menon’, and that irritates me. A film becomes successful because of the actors who play their part well, the gripping storyline, the scintillating music score, the brilliance displayed in direction and with the support of a good production house. I cannot be the only reason for a film’s success”

Known best as the lucky charm of the Tamil industry, this actress has only scored positive response for her roles. What is it that impresses the audience? In the race for attaining size zero, she stays confident about being curvy. While the heroines are perceived to be glam dolls in a film, she comes up wrapped in a saree or a half-saree delivering her homely role in the most convincing manner. What makes this lady so fond? She smilingly says, "Contrary to what you think, I am actually bored of wearing the same costumes. Let’s face it, who wears half-sarees at home these days? Sometimes in the sets I will be the only one to wear a half-saree. I am actually looking for doing something different from what I have done till now.”

Further, the young lady is looking for scripts that depict Lakshmi Menon as a character and portrays who she is in real life. About the striking qualities that will be present in the pseudo movie that showcases her in real life, she said, “She will first wear normal clothes that you see every other girl wearing. She will have a lot of friends. She will be short-tempered. She will be rebellious and she will surely be a foodie.”

In her upcoming film Komban, she is seen as a feisty and a bold wife who is homely as well as boisterous. Good Luck Lakshmi. We hope that your wishes come true ...
