Folklore and superstition make a return to the big screen this weekend with Pournami Nagam. Remember old tales about how nagams (snakes) mate for life, their photographic memory and vengeance which does not die down even for decades; well, Pournami Nagam relives this belief that was once rooted in the Indian psyche.

The story of Pournami Nagam is similar to many films revolving around the belief that had come out in the 70s and 80s. A pair of nagams has mated for life. Their mission is to perform the Naga dance in front of the Gods. But, all that is foiled by a gang of smugglers who kill the male Naga in search for the mythical ‘Naga manickyam’ (diamond). The rest of the story is about how the female Naga wreaks vengeance on the smugglers for killing her mate. This, she does by entering the body of a woman.

Mumaith Khan plays the female lead in a film for the first time in Tamil with Pournami Nagam. What more, she has been entrusted with a double role. Known
  Pournami Nagam
only for item songs till now, it will be interesting to watch her in a different role, though one guesses that a generous dose of glamour will be present here too.

Pournami Nagam is directed by Kannan and is the remake of the yesteryear Telugu hit Punnami Nagam. The film also features Karunas and Adithya Menon in important roles.
