Perhaps one of the most unfortunate films of our times will make it to the screen this weekend. The fate that befell the Jaggubhai team in the form of a leak well before its theatrical release was one of the most shocking incidents that the film industry witnessed in quite a while. The only consolation might have been found in the fact that it was not the finished version that was lifted and put on the internet. But, let’s put that behind us and look forward to what Jaggubhai has to offer.

First, it is the return of one of the most reliable actor-director combinations of the last decade and a half - Sarathkumar and KS Ravikumar. Also, veteran comedian Goundamani makes his re-entry with this film. They have given many a hit in the past and will look to add to their tally with Jaggubhai. The story is different right from the outset. For a change, Sarathkumar will not be romancing a heroine and singing duets, which is a rare occurrence in Tamil cinema. He will be seen playing the role of a mature middle-aged man whose family life hit the rocks many years ago. A lonely life he leads until he learns that his daughter is the target of a conspiracy. He forgets the past and undertakes the mission of protecting his daughter from
the forces that conspire, all that without the knowledge of the one who is being protected. What happens, to the conspiracy and the family that long ceased to exist? That is what Jaggubhai is all about.

The name Jaggubhai kindles memories of the proposed Rajinikanth starrer in the first half of the decade. Now, it comes with Sarathkumar in the lead. Produced by Radaan Media (Radhika Sarathkumar) in association with Zee Pictures, Jaggubhai has music by Rafee which was released quite a while back when there was still hope that Jaggubhai would make it as a late Diwali release, making it a double dhamaka for KSR along with Aadhavan.

Sarathkumar does need a box office hit at this juncture. His performance in Pazhassi Raja was hugely appreciated and it will be splendid for him if Jaggubhai stirs up the box office. Shriya too will be looking to regain her hold on Kollywood which seems to have slackened a bit

It is also important to note here that whatever was available of Jaggubhai on the net was an unfinished and unpolished product. The team has also altered the climax to increase the suspense and excitement. So, after all the trials, travails and efforts, let’s hope that Jaggubhai hits the bull’s eye. May the KSR-Sarathkumar combo continue to rock!
