This
might not be the first time that this
actress is being accused of hurting
the sentiments of people. Mallika
has had her detractors ever since
she burst onto the Bollywood scene
with Kwaahish and its 17 kisses. So,
this new charge may not give her any
jitters. But these frequent charges
being made against actresses are becoming
a bit embarrassing and a bit redundant.
The complaints that have been made against many
of the sizzling ladies of Bollywood like Mallika,
Meghana Naidu, and Rakhee Sawant have done little
in terms of changing the attitudes of the ladies
towards glamour. In fact an individual had been
so incensed about the insult that he thought was
being brought upon the Jhat community by Mallika
that he plotted to murder her. However, the police
got the wind of the affair and put the ‘would
be’ assassin behind bars. This was some
time in mid 2006.
Now it is hardly the first weekend of 2007 and
Mallika is in the news again. This time too the
charges are of obscenity, not on the big screen
but on stage. Mallika had given a very high profile
live performance on New Year’s Eve at one
of Mumbai’s top hotels. What transpired
at the performance which lasted a much shorter
while than it was supposed to, infuriated some
people. That Mallika had worn an outfit that stuck
to her skin got under the skin of these people.
They preferred not to sit around and forget the
matter. One person attracted the attention of
the local police to the matter. No official complaint
has been registered as yet. The complainant also
has expressed his displeasure over the suggestiveness
of the dance performed by Mallika. He said that
he had seen the footage of the performance on
a news channel.
But the truth is that the performance was not
meant to be filmed on any camera as per prior
agreement. When Mallika found out that the media
was actually filming her performance, she had
left the stage leaving the show in the lurch.
Now, whether Mallika has to be charged for obscenity
or whether the hotel authorities have to be charged
for allowing the performance to be filmed is a
pertinent question. But chances are that this
issue will also be forgotten in a short while
or when the next such issue surfaces. The actress
can continue sizzling on and off screen.
