Vairamuthu and Ponmani’s youngest son Kabilan got married to Ramya, daughter of Justice Mayandi and Amutha at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai on September 5th 2010. The marriage took place with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi gracing the occasion along with his family members.

During the occasion, Vairamuthu delivered a speech on how the newlyweds should lead their lives in his usual poetic style. Reacting to this, Karunanidhi said that Vairamuthu’s narration of his poetic verses was always stiff and his wish for the newlyweds sounded as if he were rebuking them. He remarked that this should’ve been done at home but appreciated Vairamuthu for making it public so that others will also have a chance to follow it.
