For me, Bala and Sasi – an unforgettable year

The audio release of Subramaniyaburam, a film produced and directed by Sashi – once assistant to both Bala and Ameer, took place today (09.05.08). Ameer lit the lamp. The hero of this film is Jai and the heroine, Swathi. Ammer recalled that Sasi would be ready at 5am promptly ever morning before a shoot. This impressed Bala enough

to say, “This man has an aura about him that will be lucky for us. We should always keep him with us.” But now look at him, Ameer said, he is not only director but producer as well. Both Bala and I are immensely happy. Ameer also observed that the promo song for the film was something he himself wanted to do for the film he is acting as hero, Yogi, but Sasi had beaten him to the idea.

Also present was director Karu Palaniappan, who commented that Sasi’s film seemed to be set in the 80s in Madurai. The film was full of nice period details he said and mentioned two: a theatre in existence then called Janatha is shown in the movie, and a daily newspaper announces a speech by the then mayor of Madurai. Ameer concluded the function by saying that this year has been very memorable for him because he will be a hero in Yogi, Bala will be releasing his new film, Naan Kadavul and Sasi, who had been both their assistants, has made his own film now.
