Director Vasantha Balan says that Angadi Theru’s inspiration is the popular Ranganathan Street in Chennai. The busy street has several hundred shops and street hawkers doing active business everyday. The story of the lead pair Anjali and Mahesh revolves around this street.

The film has been in the making for quite some months now. When asked about this, Vasantha Balan says that he has been shooting in the always busy Ranganathan street, which is not an easy task and hence the delay.

The director says that he has done enough research about this street before deciding to make a story. He recalls that he spent over six months in a mansion near that street to study the people and shops in that area.
