For someone who has reached enviable heights of fame, awards are nothing new. There is also the wisdom that every award certainly recognizes something different in the creator. So goes the Sadhana Samman Award to Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu. The Institute of Languages in Calcutta has conferred the “Sadhana Samman” Award on Poet Vairamuthu.

Bhasha Parishad confers awards recognizing the outstanding Indian writers in 14 languages every year. This year the pride of winning it for Tamil language goes to poet Vairamuthu. The Award carries a Rs 51000/- cash prize along with the citation.

The happiest news is that this organization will take up the honorable task of translating his literary works in to all the other Indian languages.

The poet himself is going to be present for the Awards ceremony on 18th April which will be an added joy for his fans in Kolkata. Sivashankari, Indira Parthasarathy and Jayakanthan are some of the earlier recipients for their literary creations in Tamil.

Vairamuthu says, “I deem it an honor to receive this Award in the land where poet Shri Rabindranath Tagore was born”, probably the motivation for him to receive the award in person. May he win many more accolades and crown the most beautiful language Tamil with all the honors.
