Who will play Gooli – Vikram or Surya?

The Kannada gangster film Gooli has become the surprise hit of the year, earning 3 crores in its first week alone. The lead actor, Sudeep, is supposed to be excellent in it. Several other elements in the film has contributed to its successes – the punchy dialogues by director P. Sathya, music director Anoop’s two cute songs, the cool camerawork

by Ravi, the stunts by stunt director Palani Raj, the offbeat (fight-less) climax which has everyone talking.

But here’s the really interesting part: director Sathya has already discussed the possibility of remaking Gooli in Tamil with film producer Vijay Kumar, who plans to cast either Surya or Vikram in the lead role. “My luck has begun,” explains the director, “and that’s probably why my film is being remade in Tamil now. I will be directing the Tamil version as well. I am currently working on the script to bring in nativity for the Tamil audience.”

What is Gooli about? Sudeep plays Gooli, an underworld don who is the undisputed king of the city. Rather unusually, this is a gangster who also stands up for the underprivileged, bringing them justice. He has several rivals who would like to see his end. Meanwhile, he falls in love with the cute Mamta Mohandass, who hopes to reform him completely. Now we’ll just have to wait and see who will play Gooli in Tamil – Vikram or Surya?
