Drilling works are reportedly underway to test soil and rock conditions on the 7 km undersea bullet train route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. According to reports, a Railway Ministry official has said that the test will also cover the 21-km-long underground tunnel between Thane and Virar. Though most of the 508-km-long railway line is elevated, the stretch between the two cities will go under the sea.
