An RTI query by Bareilly-based activist Mohd Khalid Jilani has revealed that UP government is sending Rs 50,000 every month for the beneficiaries of Yash Bharti Samman. The list of beneficiaries includes UP Congress chief Raj Babbar, filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vishal Bhardwaj, cricketers Suresh Raina and Mohammad Kaif. Jilani reportedly told ToI that, "Instead of spending crores on affluent dignitaries, the money could be utilised in welfare projects."
