The Pentagon has reportedly said a US fighter jet shot down a Syrian government warplane on Sunday after the aircraft had dropped bombs on US-backed forces. This confirmed an earlier report from Damascus that one of its planes had gone missing after what it called “flagrant aggression.” Responding to the incident, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on the US to respect Syria's territorial integrity and refrain from unilateral actions against Syrian forces.
