Seven sand quarries across Tamil Nadu have been shut from Saturday following a direction by the Madras high court on Friday. According to reports, the sand quarries were shut for using machines to remove sand. Notably, all the quarries were allowed to operate only with manual quarrying. The sudden shut down of the sand quarries is expected to bring the housing and infrastructure projects across the state to a grinding halt.
