The Central Government on Friday notified that all existing bank accounts must be linked with Aadhaar number by December 31, 2017, failing which the accounts will be declared invalid. Further, financial transactions of Rs 50,000 and above will also require Aadhaar. The government earlier mandated seeding of Aadhaar number with Permanent Account Number to avoid individuals using multiple PANs to evade taxes.
