According to reports, the Supreme Court on Tuesday sought a response from the Centre on a plea challenging the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. “We the Citizens”, a Delhi-based NGO, filed a petition in July demanding to repeal Article 35A because of its “unconstitutional” character. Article 35A of the constitution empowers the J&K legislature to define state's “permanent residents” and their special rights and privileges.
