This first ever Oscars to be aired on television was the 1953 Academy Awards ceremony, 24 years after the awards’ inception in 1929. The ceremony was organised in Hollywood, California and about 34 million people reportedly viewed the black and white telecast. Notably, the first Oscar awards ceremony in colour aired in 1966.
