The environment ministry on Wednesday reportedly announced that its controversial ban on cattle slaughter and restrictions on cattle trade is based on the Supreme Court's order of July 2016. Notably, the apex court had earlier directed the Centre to frame rules to curb trans-border smuggling of cattle.
