According to a response to an RTI query, around 6 lakh litres of blood has been wasted across India in the last 5 years due to lack of coordination between blood banks and hospitals. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka recorded the maximum wastage of red blood cells, while UP and Karnataka also wasted the maximum units of fresh frozen plasma.
