A 1000-year-old Chola temple has reportedly been discovered in a half-buried state at Thiruvallam in Vellore district. The ruined structure is situated among the paddy fields in Kambarajapuram, a kilometre from Thiruvallam town. The temple is reportedly known as `Karuppu Koil' because of the black colour of the rock used for its construction. A senior archaeologist has reportedly found, with the help of inscriptions on the ruined structure, that king Vikrama Chola donated generously to this temple. He also said the structure must have been there since the 10th century.
