What is it about?
Toilet Ek Prem Katha is a social-drama directed by Shree Narayan Singh starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. The film talks about the basic need of toilet at home. The title of the film created a lot of buzz with fans expecting the film to be a sure shot blockbuster with some hard hitting facts. But, did the movie really meet all of those expectations? No, not really. Toilet Ek Prem Katha has a strong social storyline, but the movie is derailed by too much of commercial elements.

What makes up the film?
Akshay in recent days has become a nationalist representative of the masses by choosing films with social relevances. In Toilet Ek Prem Katha the film talks about building toilets across the nation. The film is all about Keshav, played by Akshay Kumar who falls in love with Jaya, played by Bhumi Pednekar, and both of them get hitched. Post wedding Jaya finds it difficult to adopt open defecation. Akshay, on the other hand, is trapped between his family who is an orthodox Brahmin and talking high on tradition and culture and refuses to construct a toilet at home. What happens next makes the film's rest of the plot.

What doesn't work?
Toilet Ek Prem Katha is high on drama and loses its core intense of the subject in its screenplay. Another major setback of the film is the second-half, which is both predictable and lagging. Director, Narayan has stuffed too many dialogues and known facts throughout the film, which is the big let down of the film.

What worked?
Narayan's screenplay in the first half has worked brilliantly well, keeping the audiences engaged and the very adorable screen chemistry of Akshay and Bhumi is the first positive of the film. Akshay Kumar's screen presence has worked big time. The star is known for his humor sense, and Akshay has delivered one of his best performances. Other casts like Divyendu Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar are major positives of the film.

Verdict: Akshay's Toilet Ek Prem Katha has leakage in its screenplay, but the efforts need to be appreciated.
